Collections Available on the Library Floor

 

General Collection

This collection houses most of the library's lending stock and is available to all registered borrowers.
The collection's strengths are in the areas of business studies, engineering and science.
The collection is located on the ground floor of the library, and is organised using the Dewey Decimal Classification system. The sequence begins in front of the library desk and runs to opposite the external windows, then continues on across the walk way towards the glassed silent study area at the back of the library.

 

Journal Collection

This collection houses the current issues of the print journals to which the library subscribes on behalf of the institute. The current issues of journals cannot be borrowed. All registered library users can use these journals.
The collection is located on the ground floor of the library to the left when you come in the entrance, under the front corner window. It is organised using the Dewey Decimal Classification system.

 

Reference Collection

The reference collection contains reference materials for the use of all registered library users. These materials are not borrowable and can only be used in the library.
The collection is located on the ground floor of the library on the right hand side of the stairway, and is organised using the Dewey Decimal Classification system.

 

Short Loan Collection

The short loan collection contains materials that are in high demand during the year. Academic staff request that materials be placed in the short loan collection to guarantee their availability. These materials are generally available for 24 hours to registered library borrowers.
The short loan collection is located behind the library desk, and are available to library borrowers from the library desk. Please ask a member of staff for assistance.
Please note that these materials are only available while the library desk is open, and are not available from 8am-9am or on Friday nights from 5pm-9pm.

 

Multi-Media Collection (was Audio and Visual Media Collection)

The library's collection of Videos, Audio Cassettes, DVD and MultiMedia learning packs are housed together. These materials are borrowable. DVD/Video materials can be borrowed for three days, all other materials can be borrowed for two weeks.
The collection is located on the ground floor of the library to the right of the stairway and adjacent to the library desk, and the reference collection. It is organised using the Dewey Decimal Classification system. The sequence begins near the library desk and ends near the glassed study area.

 

Official Publications

The library holds a selection of publications from the government, government agencies and the European Union.
The collection is housed to the left hand side of the glassed silent study area at the back of the ground floor, and is borrowable by registered library borrowers. The section is organised using the Dewey Decimal Classification system.

 

Thesis and Student Projects

Student thesis and projects submitted to the library by the academic departments are available for consultation.
The collection is housed on the ground floor of the library within the glassed silent study area at the back of the ground floor. The section is organised using the Dewey Decimal Classification system.

Quinn Collection

The Quinn Collection consists of nearly one thousand books mainly of French Literature that was kindly donated by Dr. Tom Quinn.

 

Annual Reports

The library holds a selection of annual reports. This collection is housed on the ground floor of the library within the glassed silent study area, and after the Official Publications section. The section is organised alphabetically.
Annual Reports are also available in electronic format from the library catalogue.

 

Careers Information

Career development information is deposited in the library by the Careers Officer.
This material is located on the left hand side within the glassed study area on the ground floor.

 

Fiction

The library holds a small fiction collection. This collection is located on the left of the stairway, and is organised alphabetically by author. These materials are borrowable.

 

General Resources - Openly Available

The library maintains a page of links to generally accessible resources, which provide access to reliable electronic information. Links on this page are of an academic nature and are related to the subject areas taught at ITT Dublin. These resources are freely available to all.

 

Donations

The library welcomes donations of recent materials relevant to the subject areas taught at ITT Dublin. Fiction books are also welcome. Please note that the library reserves the right not to add materials donated if they are not appropriate.

 

Collections in Storage

 

Journal Store

Previous years of Journal titles are stored off site. Please fill in a journal request form (available from the library desk), and the journal you requested will be available for you to collect from the library desk the next working day.

 

Exam Papers from previous years

Exam papers in paper format from previous years are held in our archives. Please fill in a request form (available from the library desk), and the papers you request will be available for you to collect from the library desk the next working day.

 

Electronic Collections

 

Electronic Subscriptions - available on and of campus via the library website

The library's electronic collections are available via the library web site, both on and off campus. Please pick up a guide to these collections from the library desk

 

Exam Papers Online

Exam papers since 2001 have been converted to electronic format by library staff and made available to registered library uses for both on and off campus use. The papers are searchable via the library catalogue and are organized by the title of the course of study to which they apply. You must log on as a registered library user to access these papers. Search for exam papers.

Other Electronic Resources

The library provides access to other electronic resources by various methods. Some databases are searchable simultaneously via the broadcast search facility. You must log on as a registered library user to access these resources.
Other resources include catalogue records of web sites.
